Friday, February 26: Bishop John H. Ricard entered a rehabilitation hospital today to continue his recovery from a Dec. 2009 stroke and subsequent surgeries. The bishop will be a patient at a specialized rehabilitation facility within the diocese. While there, he will continue physical, speech and language therapy. The name of the facility is being withheld to ensure that the bishop is able to obtain the rest needed to focus completely on his recovery. The bishop’s doctors will determine his date of release from the rehabilitation facility. The bishop underwent surgery on Feb. 10 and again on Feb. 19 to remove subdural hematomas and to adjust the functioning of a permanent shunt that was inserted in December. He has been a patient at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola since the Feb. 19 surgery. Your continued prayers for his recovery are deeply appreciated.
